SymptomGlobal Protect Agents installed on a MacOS is having repeated issues with connecting to the Global Protect Gateway. It shows as constantly in the 'Connecting' state with no changes in status. Retrying the connection does not help. After looking into the PanGPA.log and finding the following:
This indicates that the Global Protect Agent cannot reach the Global Protect Service running on the client.
Environment

- Global Protect Agent 5.0 and above.
- Any PAN-OS.
Cause

MacOS High Sierra 10.13 introduced a new feature that requires user approval before loading newly-installed third-party kernel extensions or KEXTs, for short. When a request is made to load a KEXT that has not been approved, the load request is denied.
NOTE: Approval is automatically granted to third-party KEXTs that were already installed before transitioning to macOS High Sierra.
The KEXT associated with Global Protect has not been approved and so cannot be run. This in turn prevents the Agent from connecting to the service.
Resolution
To resolve this, the KEXT needs to be approved.
When a request is made to load a KEXT that has not been approved, the load request is denied and macOS presents the alert below:
This directs the user to approve the KEXT in System Preferences > Security & Privacy:
This approval will only be present for 30 minutes after the alert. Until approval, future load attempts will cause the approval UI to reappear but will not trigger another alert.

The approval request should show 'Palo Alto Networks' as the developer. Click 'Allow' and that should give the necessary permissions for Global Protect.
Additional Information
This is only a potential solution for GP connection issues on MacOS. Other OS will operate differently.

Follow these easy steps to protect the personal data on your device running macOS or Mac OS X.
1. Easily encrypt your Mac with the built-in FileVault.
Turn FileVault on to make your files are unreadable if someone else gets hold of your computer while powered off or locked.

2. Set a password for your account and disable automatic login.
Remember to require your password after your Mac sleeps and of course, use a strong, lengthy password. Note that Disable automatic login has been removed from macOS Sierra.

3. Update macOS regularly.
Don’t ignore those installation prompts! Remember you can check for updates at any time.

4. Make sure the firewall is turned on.
Enabling the built-in firewall will block incoming connections. You can also choose to allow only signed software to accept incoming connections under Firewall Options.

5. Enable stealth mode.
Being in stealth mode means your Mac will not respond to connection attempts from the network.

6. Set the computer to log out after a period of inactivity.
The default for automatic logout is 60 minutes but shorter is better.

7. Require an admin password for system-wide changes.
This helps protect against malware doing widespread damage.

8. Control which apps are accessing your location.
Verify what’s using your location data and disable any location services you don’t need.

9. Restrict which types of apps are allowed to run on your Mac.
For more protection, grant permission only to the Mac App Store.

10. Review which apps have access to sensitive data.
In particular, protect personal data such as your contacts and calendar info.

11.Stop sending diagnostics and usage data.
This data can include information such as the apps you use and your location.

12. Check which sharing services are enabled.
Disable things like screen sharing, file sharing, printer sharing, remote login, etc. unless you’re sure you need them.
